Global sales of passenger automobiles are due to hit 73.9 million cars in 2015. Together with China, the US is among the biggest markets in the world, when it comes to both production and sales.

Around 7.7 million passenger vehicles were sold customers in 2014 int the U.S. alone, and about 4.25 million were manufactured there in that year. The U.S. became an important auto market when Henry Ford began assembly-line car production in the early nineteen-hundreds to manufacture the Model T.

Currently, the Ford Motor Company still has pride of place among the leading producers of passenger cars, its best selling model being the Ford Focus, that was 2013’s best selling automobile. When it comes to revenue, General Motors, Toyota and Volkswagen are at the top of the list of car makers. The supplier market is dominated by Magna, Bosch, Denso and Continental.

Internet based car technologies and self-driving automobiles are due to create another revolution in this sector. 2014 saw some 23 percent of U.S. responders stating that they would be likely to purchase a fully autonomous vehicle for safety reasons

The supplier market for hardware associated with the autonomous vehicle industry is set to grow from 400 million U.S. dollars in 2015 to 40 billion U.S. dollars in 2030.
